Enjoy reading! NEWSRoad Transport Thematic Research Summary Published
Road transport dominates the European transport scene, serving Europeans every day. While transport costs to industry have generally been reduced, the growth of this sector has produced a number of negative effects, namely regarding safety, the environment, inefficiency, and increasing social disparity. This paper provides a review of research relating to road transport carried out in EU-funded research projects. The Road Transport Thematic Research Summary is available for download in the 'Publications' section of the TRKC portal. Efficiency in Sustainable Mobility Thematic Research Summary PublishedThis paper deals with the minimisation of the resource costs of a given transport system and the maximisation of its performance. Costs considered include those borne by the transport users and those by the transport operators. The relief of congestion and reliability is a significant element in the consideration of efficiency. The Efficiency in Sustainable Mobility Thematic Research Summary is available for download in the 'Publications' section of the TRKC portal. TRKC present at "Future of Transport" conference and exhibitionIn 2001, the Commission issued a White Paper setting an agenda for transport policy throughout 2010. Approaching the end of the ten-year period, it is time to look further ahead and define a vision for the future of transport and mobility, preparing the ground for future policy developments. Top managers of transport operators, manufacturers and logistic companies have been invited by Commission Vice-President A. Tajani, in charge of European transport policy, to gather their views and those of other policy-makers, academics and representatives of Member States, European institutions and NGOs on the main challenges and opportunities for the transport sector in the very long term (20 to 40 years). The "Future of Transport" Conference will be centred on four workshops focusing on urban, freight and passenger transport and on the challenge of sustainable mobility. The event will take place on 9-10 March 2009 in the Charlemagne Building in Brussels. Alongside the conference there will also be an exhibition on innovative transport technologies with stands and information materials. This is where TRKC will be presented to all interested parties. |
MORE RESULTS AVAILABLE:CYBERMOVEThe CyberMove Project demonstrated the effectiveness of Cybernetic Transport Systems (CTSs) in solving city mobility problems and proved that they have now reached high levels of reliability, safety and user friendliness. Airport Decision And MANagement NeTwork ADAMANTWhen the ADAMANT network is up and running, airport officials will be able to contact passengers via their mobile phones to alert them of check-in queues, flight delays and time remaining before their flight. Airline officials, meanwhile, will be able to contact passengers who are late arriving or have lost track of time shopping and thus prevent costly flight delays waiting for them or for their luggage to be offloaded.
