The Transport Research Knowledge Centre (TRKC) has just published a new Thematic Research Summary (TRS), a synthesis of results of completed European research projects related to regulation and deregulation. Regulation, in the context of this theme, is defined as the use of physical regulation or the law to correct what is perceived to be failure, particularly market failure, in the transport sector. Regulation may also be used to achieve specific transport objectives, such as safety. Deregulation is the removal of regulations, often in order to adjust competition policy. This new TRS helps the reader keep abreast of the latest research in the EU on the topic. The first part includes a brief overview of the scope of the theme and summarises the main policy developments at EU level relevant to the theme. The second part contains a synthesis of the main findings and policy implications from research projects and identifies the implications for further research. The new TRS is available for download from the Thematic publications section of the TRKC website. TRKC Workshop: “Accessing transport research information” at TRA 2010Information about transport research in the EU and the member states of the ERA is scattered and thus it is often difficult to access for those in need of it. The Transport Research Knowledge Centre (TRKC) attempts to bring together a maximum of this information, yet there are numerous other databases and websites, which provide similar or complementary information. The TRKC will host a workshop at the Transport Research Arena 2010 (TRA 2010) event in Brussels on 'Accessing transport research information' from 13:45 to 15:00 on Wednesday 9 June. The aim of this session is to identify improvements in accessing transport research information for the benefit of end users. To this end, representatives from several different databases will briefly present their portals: TRKC, ELTIS, CORDIS (tbc), ENTrada, and Press4Transport. Representatives from different end user groups such as the research community, decision-makers and shapers, as well as industry will provide structured feedback on their experience in accessing transport research information. The session will be chaired by Professor Tony May of the University of Leeds Institute for Transport Studies. Please click here for further information on TRA 2010. To register for the workshop please contact the TRKC by email. |
Project evaluationsEuropean project evaluations from ERRAC now onlineThe European Technology Platform for rail transport, the European Rail Research Advisory Council (ERRAC), has evaluated a number of R&D projects funded under the EU's framework programmes for research. These project evaluations have now been added (as PDF documents) to the project profiles available in the TRKC's database. They can be found, using the TRKC's Advanced Search, by searching for 'Projects & Analysis' under the 'Rail' transport mode and with the FP4 and FP5 funding programmes as 'Origin'.
For example, read the ERRAC evaluation of the EUROMAIN project on the TRKC website! MORE UPDATESNew project profilesSee the latest project profiles available in our searchable database. There are about 400 projects from FP6 available (and almost 6 000 European and national projects in total). New descriptions and result summaries are being added continually.
